    THE ORIGINAL

The Snuggle Mug. Warm hands included.

The Snuggle Mug is a little more unusual than your standard mug and is very well-loved, doing honour to its name. It actually doesn’t need the handle at all as the round shape already lies well in hand. Especially in winter an absolute plus point: when hot tea warms your cold hands.

    Since 1909 in Thuringia

    Our story

    Four round kilns

    Read the full history
    1. Historic black-and-white photograph of the Könitz porcelain factory

      1909

      Four round kilns

Könitz Porcelain is founded in Könitz, Thuringia, with four circular kilns. The first cups, mugs, bowls and tea strainers are shipped mainly to England.

    2. Historic back stamp of the Gebrüder Metzel porcelain factory

      1912

      Growing fast

Demand rises so quickly that the factory expands just three years later — as the Koenitz Porcelain Factory Gebrüder Metzel — and wins new international markets.

    3. The Könitz factory building

      1985

      The modern mug line

After two years of investment, one of the most modern mug assembly lines of its time goes into operation in Könitz in December 1985.

    4. Aerial view of the Könitz site

      1993

      The mug specialist

Turpin Rosenthal takes over Könitz Porzellan — the start of today’s mug specialist, with its own designs, licensed collections and custom mugs.

    5. Ceramic silk-screen printing of a mug decal

      Today

      Up to 30 colours

Every design is checked in lithography, separated into up to 30 colours and silk-screen printed one colour after another — development and decal printing happen in Germany.

Mugs people use every day — for years.

    4.851 ratings across 36 products
    • “I bought these mugs for their beautiful shape and unusual design. They hold quite a lot, and the design still looks unchanged — after several years of black tea and the dishwasher.”

    • “Snuggles warmly into your hands on cold winter evenings. Nicely done with the built-in strainer for loose tea and the little lid — beautiful and well thought out.”

    • “They are absolutely gorgeous, the fine details, and best of all, they are designed by hand with human thought, and hand built by skilled crafts people on the foundation of centuries of experience.”

    • “Very beautiful plates, cereal bowls and mugs — great quality, especially the colours. I recommend them to everyone. Thanks to KÖNITZ for a fast, smooth order. Simply perfect (no breakage!).”

    • “Really nice quality. First cup came with a broken handle but the company sent a perfect replacement in less than 24 hours. Great service.”

    • “I think this mug is gorgeous! I've had one with this design for almost two years and now I'm ordering another one to give as a gift.”

    • “The Mega Mug is lovely with its botanical illustrations. I use it every day and really enjoy it — when I drink from it, I know I've already had almost half a litre.”

    • “A very good, beautiful product. I've taken your mugs to the USA as gifts several times and they were always a big hit.”

How much does shipping cost and how fast is it?

Shipping within Germany costs €5.95 and is free from €49.00. EU destinations start at €13.90. Items in stock are shipped within 4–5 workdays; you see the exact costs before you order.

Are KÖNITZ mugs dishwasher- and microwave-safe?

Yes — in general all KÖNITZ products are suitable for household dishwashers and microwaves. Only mugs with real gold or platinum decoration must not go into the microwave.

What is the difference between Fine Bone, Basic Bone and porcelain?

Bone china contains calcium phosphate, which makes it especially white, light and translucent — Fine Bone is the finest quality. Classic porcelain is dense, very hard and taste-neutral. Every product page lists the material.

    Where are the mugs made?

KÖNITZ has been making mugs since 1909. Products are made at all KÖNITZ group locations — also in Germany — while design development and the printing of the decals take place in Germany.

    Can I return my order?

Yes. As a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal. Details are in our withdrawal policy.

    Learn more
Which payment methods can I use?

PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Pay by Bank. All payments are processed via secure, encrypted providers.

    Do mugs come gift-wrapped?

Many designs — e.g. the Wunderbar and ARTselection mugs and all gift sets — come in a gift box. Use the “Gift box” filter to see them all.

Can I order custom mugs with our logo?

Yes — promotional mugs with your logo or message are available from 96 pieces. Use the mug configurator to request a quote.
